Bonhomme sets pace in Red Bull Air Race Elimination round
12.05.2007 |
|
| Paul Bonhomme (GBR) set the pace in the first knock-out round of the Red Bull Air Race World Series at Monument Valley on Saturday, earning the top spot for the quarter-finals round with a time of 01:00.01 minutes. Bonhomme just beat Alejandro Maclean (+0,16 seconds) through the course in the iconic Western setting in front of breathtaking scenery at the Navajo Tribal Park that straddles the Utah-Arizona border. The slowest four of the 12 pilots who qualified for Saturday’s race were eliminated in the first round. Sergey Rakhmanin (RUS) was ninth, Hannes Arch (AUT) was 10th, Michael Goulian (USA) was 11th and Nicolas Ivanoff (FRA) took 12th. Flying at speeds of up to 250 mph, the pilots will be navigating their propeller aircraft through an aerial race track just a few dozen feet above the ground that features air-filled pylons. Last year, there were more than six million spectators at eight races. |
